Mobilise/Demobilise explores human mobility within the contemporary political and environmental context, creating an artistic and discursive response to a world of increasing conflict, crisis and emergency. The Covid19 pandemic makes this project timely and urgent: communication, connection and culture are rapidly evolving as lockdowns and travel restrictions force us to live more and more of our lives online. Mobilise/Demobilise brings a critical and artistic perspective to this current crisis.
„Mobilise/Demobilise“ erkundet die ethischen Implikationen menschlicher Mobilität im aktuellen politischen und ökologischen Kontext, sowie die Auswirkung der rasanten Entwicklung von Mobiltechnologien auf das menschliche Leben und die Umwelt. Es ist eine künstlerische und diskursive Antwort auf eine Welt zunehmender Konflikte, Krisen und Notfälle, und eine erfinderische und innovative Antwort auf den Bedarf an neuen Mitteln der Kommunikation und Kultur im digitalen Feld. Zusätzliche Aktualität erhält das Projekt durch die Covid-19 Pandemie, die uns dazu zwingt, aufgrund von Lockdowns und Reisebeschränkungen einen größeren Teil unserer Kommunikation und unseres sozialen Lebens online zu verbringen.
Mobilise/Demobilise is a creative collaboration between UpStage, Teater Interakt, Schaumbad – Freies Atelierhaus Graz and the Center for the Cultivation of Technology. The partners are collaboratively investigating the theme and have developed a series of interactive online performances, which premiered in the Mobilise/Demobilise festival, October 15-17 2021. Alongside the creative process, the UpStage platform has been “mobilised” – re-engineered to function on mobile devices such as smartphones and tablets – and brought up-to-date with current internet technologies.
The project is funded by Creative Europe and runs from September 2020 to August 2024.
